Burleigh Heads and Palm Beach Public Transport Improvements
Posted: 28th November 2024
This study investigated options for the bus services impacted by the extension of light rail to Burleigh Heads including identifying options for new/modified bus routes, new bus stop locations, layover requirements and other infrastructure interventions. The work aimed to minimise the duplication of bus and light rail services, minimise dead-running, efficiently re-allocate surplus service-kilometres, improve the efficiencies of existing services and to cater for future public transport demand and the potential further expansion of the Gold Coast Light Rail. Options assessment used several customised ‘fit for purpose’ tools and transport models including the GCTSM-MM strategic model, Remix and Aimsun. A weighted option evaluation was completed considering cost, viability, connectivity, convenience, and adaptability. The study culminated in the design and recommendation of a new bus layover facility in West Burleigh, new bus stops along West Burleigh Road and new bus stops at Varsity Lakes Station.
