Gold Coast Speed Limit Reviews Program

Bitzios Consulting was engaged by City of Gold Coast to prepare a series of Speed Limit Reviews for High Active Transport User Areas (HATUAs) within key centres of Southport and Burleigh Heads, along with foreshore precincts in Surfers Paradise and Broadbeach. The purpose of the reviews was to determine areas as being suitable to have reduced speed limits of 30km/h or 40km/h. The reviews involved crash data analysis, speed and volume surveys, and the use of engineering judgement to make recommendation on speed limits, including any traffic management treatments needed to support lower speed HATUA environments.  The outcomes of the project were Speed Limit Review Reports that the City used successfully to gain endorsement for the lowering speed limits at the region’s Speed Management Committee meetings.
